Directional Drilling and Coring Service
Directional Drilling
The Service drills vertical and directional wells along the trajectory required by the client. The backbone of the Service’s equipment consists of downhole mud motors and an MWD/LWD sonde system for measuring directional well parameters and continuously measuring the natural radioactivity of the drilled formations (gamma ray logging). Measured results and upcoming activities are interpreted and planned using advanced software. Downhole motors are also used for drilling vertical wells, achieving higher rates of penetration and reducing drilling time and, ultimately, total well construction costs (Performance Drilling). Since 1954, the Service has drilled more than 1450 directional wells, both onshore and offshore.
Coring
The Service performs conventional coring with basic equipment. Coring operations ensure high-quality core from which reservoir information can be obtained, which is also used for geological and petrophysical reservoir modeling. Over 4,550 coring operations have been performed, recovering around 26.000 m (85.302 ft) of core.
Fishing Service
The Fishing Service performs complex fishing operations on drilling and workover rigs in both open and cased hole. The Service applies proven methods and technologies and a wide range of tools, including catch tools, milling tools, junk retrieval tools, casing patches, auxiliary tools and hydraulic rotary units. Fishing operations include wellbore clean-out, milling of lost equipment and unwanted obstructions, drilling out and retrieving packers and mechanical plugs, removing unwanted material from the wellbore, internal and external cutting, internal and external catches, and resolving other unexpected well conditions with constant commitment to health, safety and environmental protection.
Coil Tubing & Nitrogen Services
The Coil Tubing Service operates onshore and offshore with trailer and skid mounted units and trained, experienced crews. The units are equipped with reeled tubing from 25,4 mm (1“) to 31,75 mm (1 1/4“) in diameter. In combination with downhole tools and motors, a wide range of operations can be performed, including: well lifting/killing, drilling/clean-out, fishing, stimulation and cementing.
CROSCO was the first to offer coil tubing in Europe, in 1975.
Available coil tubing units: Bowen MB 30 and Bowen MZ 15, Bowen MX 12. The Nitrogen Service operates onshore and offshore with mobile trailer mounted units and lightweight skid units used for offshore operations. Nitrogen is used for well purging/lifting and for the inertization of pipelines, closed tanks and rail tank cars for fuel transport, and has a range of applications in various industries.
Available nitrogen units: Hobbs, Skid I, Skid II, and three liquid nitrogen storage tanks with a capacity of 7500 liters (1981 gallons).
Mud Service
The Service prepares, controls and regenerates working fluids according to the client’s requirements, used during drilling and workover operations and for well killing. The Service ensures the preparation and control of the physical and chemical properties of well fluids. The Mud Service has performed these operations onshore since 1952 and offshore since 1972.
H2S Service
The Service provides detection of and protection from hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and other harmful gases on drilling and workover rigs, as well as during stimulation and well testing operations.
Depending on the type of operations, gas detection is performed using a fixed detection and alarm system with sensors mounted on the rig, portable multi-gas detectors and personal gas detectors.
Two types of breathing apparatus are used for work in hazardous atmospheres: self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), which allows user mobility, and supplied air breathing apparatus (SABA), connected to a cascade system of stored breathing air, which allows the user to remain longer in a hazardous atmosphere.
H2S operators are trained and experienced, as well as educated and certified to maintain and service the equipment they use. The operators train other employees for safe work in atmospheres with dangerous gases, and this training is conducted both at the worksite and in a one-day classroom course.
The Service has performed these operations onshore and offshore since 1997.
